THE Information Department through its Temburong branch organised the ‘Program Semarak Pengibaran Bendera Negara’ or the national flag waving programme, to mark the country’s 31st National Day at Bumiputera Commercial Complex in Pekan Bangar yesterday.

During the event, there were also various performances by The Brunei Arts Enthusiasts Association (PESTAB), as well as a choir performance by Amo Primary School students.

The programme has been conducted since 2009 and is aimed at inculcating a sense of responsibility to hoist the national flag.

It is also aimed at developing a sense of love and respect towards the flag, which is a symbol of the sovereignty of the monarch, the people and the nation.

Also present during the event were YB Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Ahad, a member of the Legislative Council, heads of departments, senior officers, village heads, school principals from government and private schools, as well as students.

The programme was held for the first time simultaneously in the other three districts at the Airport Mall, conference hall in Belait and Tutong Central Mall.
