Traditional Opera at Brunei's Chinese Temple

The audience – including top foreign diplomats from China, the United States, Russia, and the Republic of Korea – were treated to an opera performance

Audience treated to traditional opera at Teng Yun Chinese Temple

THE Teng Yun Chinese Temple in the capital was the host last night, to the Mid-Autumn celebrations, also known as the Mooncake Festival.

A huge crowd turned up at the brightly-lit temple, where mooncakes were served to guests.

Adding more colour to the occasion was a traditional opera troupe from the Xiong An Opera School in Xiamen, which performed for an audience that included top foreign diplomats from China, the United States, Russia, and the Republic of Korea.

The opera troupe held their first show last Saturday, and will continue performing for two more weeks. festival is observed by Chinese people around the world, on 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. The festival is a time for family reunion, and appreciating the full moon, a symbol of harmony and unity.

Last night’s celebrations also featured a traditional opera exhibition, and colourful lanterns of varying shapes and sizes.
